I am a recent graduate of Columbia College Chicago's Master of Art Education program and have a Bachelor's of Fine Arts from the University of Wisconsin - Madison. I spent three years in South Korea teaching ESL and Fine Arts before moving to Chicago to become an art educator. Throughout my time teaching in CPS and South Korea, I have introduced lessons and projects that focus on cooperative learning, art integration, Internationale Baccalaureate and choice-based curriculums. These techniques have provided my students the ability to grow and be respected as true artists.
Currently, I am very interested in the Teaching for Artistic Behavior model (TAB). This theory is a nationally recognized choice-based approach to art education that was first introduced in the 1970s. This theory emerged because there was a need for more authentic art making experiences. Teaching for Artistic Behavior and the choice-based art curriculum respects students as true artists and allows them real choices for responding to their own ideas and interests through the making of art.
